Shorebirds Game Notes at West Virginia

PREVIEW: A night after exploding for 11 runs, the Shorebirds were shut down in a 7-0 loss to West Virginia. It was the fifth shutout defeat of the season for Delmarva. The Power evened the series at 1-1 after handing Hunter Harvey his third loss as a Shorebird. Delmarva will try to regain control of the series with Opening Day starter Steven Brault.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Shane Carle will start game three for West Virginia on Monday evening. Carle has gone 1-3 this year with a 3.63 ERA in eight starts for the Power. The right-hander re- ceived a no-decision in his last outing, six innings against the Augusta GreenJackets with two runs (one earned) and seven hits allowed. Carle was with the Jamestown Jammers in 2013 after being selected in the 10th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles split their series with the Kansas City Royals with a 8-6 loss on Sunday. Alex Gordon hit two home runs for Kansas City, and Adam Jones hit his sixth home run of the year for Baltimore. The O's have dropped out of 1st place in the AL East, at 22- 20 trailing the New York Yankees by a 1/2 game.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

WHO'S HOT/WHO ELSE

CHANCE SISCO | C

On Saturday night, Chance Sisco hit his first home run of the season, and just his second as a pro. The Shorebirds' catcher went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs in the 11-4 victory. Sisco is currently working on a modest seven-game hitting streak, his longest stretch of the year. Sisco, the Orioles' 2nd round pick in 2013, is now batting .268 on the season.

WHO'S HOT - JIMMY YACABONIS

Through his first 13 appearances, the Del- marva closer has yet to allow a run. Yacabo- nis is perfect 10-for-10 in save opportunities with a 1-0 record. In 14.0 innings, Yacabonis has struck out 19 batters.

WHO ELSE - DREW DOSCH

In Kannapolis, Dosch hit his first two home runs of the season. On Friday, Dosch's two- run blast gave the Shorebirds a 4-2 in extra innings. The third baseman leads the team with a .313 batting average on the year.
