Potomac Nationals Game Notes vs. Myrtle Beach Pelicans

July 16, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release

Tonight, the Potomac Nationals look to even their four-game home series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs) after dropping the opener last evening by the final score of 5-2.

With Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth assigned to Potomac for a rehabilitation stint while the 13-season MLB veteran recovers from two fractures in his left wrist, the first-place Carolina League Nationals still have an opportunity to win their sixth straight series by igniting a three-game winning streak tonight at Pfitzner Stadium.

Potomac sends RHP Austen Williams (1-0, 3.00) to the hill after he won his circuit debut on July 10th on the road against the Winston-Salem Dash (Chicago White Sox) thanks to a quality start.

Williams opposes Pelicans RHP Jonathan Martinez (5-1, 2.92).

Martinez does not own a decision against the Nationals in 2015. On June 2nd away from home, Martinez allowed one earned run on five hits in 5.0 frames. Martinez walked none and fanned six before the Red, White, and Blue went on to capture 4-3 victory.

Nationals IF Khayyan Norfork is hitting .414 (12-for-29) in his last eight contests with one run scored and three RBIs. Norfork rides a six-game hitting streak entering play tonight in Woodbridge, VA.

A 7:05pm first pitch is scheduled at The Pfitz.
