Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Salem rallied back from being down three runs to steal away a 5-3 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Thursday night at City Stadium. The Hillcats have now lost four straight to the Salem Red Sox at home.

SHOWING OFF THE POWER

In the bottom of the second inning, Mike Papi led off the inning with a double. A RBI single later in the frame by Dorssys Paulino put the Hillcats up 1-0. It marked his first RBI as a Hillcat and his 40th of the season, as he recorded a team-high 39 for Lake County before he was promoted to Lynchburg.

Luigi Rodriguez singled to lead off the bottom of the third inning and was driven home when Clint Frazier roped his ninth home run of the season over the left field wall to give the Hillcats a 3-0 lead.

Michael Peoples turned in another quality start after pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits while striking out seven in a no-decision effort. Peoples is 5-0 in his last 11 starts with six no-decisions. Lynchburg has won all but three of those starts.

LATE INNING COMEBACK

Jordan Betts led off the fifth inning with a single and came around to score on a RBI base hit by Mauricio Dubon to cut the lead to 3-1 in favor of Lynchburg. In the top of the seventh Franklin Guzman crushed a home run over the scoreboard in left field to bring the Red Sox within one. Peoples was replaced by J.P. Feyereisen with two outs in the seventh inning and Feyereisen surrendered two runs in the top of the eighth that gave Salem a 4-3 lead.

Yoilan Cerse tripled, and Mario Martinez drove him in to tie the game at three. Jordan Weems singled in the very next at-bat to bring home Kevin Heller and give Salem a 4-3 advantage.

ONE FOR GOOD MEASURE

In the top of the ninth, Jose Vinicio reached second base on a single and an error after a pop fly fell in the infield. Vinicio stole third base and was driven home by Cerse to give the Red Sox a 5-3 lead. Lynchburg attempted a late rally, putting the tying run on base, but Eric Haase popped out to second to end the game, awarding Salem a three-game sweep at City Stadium. With the win, Salem has won four in a row at City Stadium and is now 6-1 in the Hill City this season.
