
Portland snaps three-game losing streak

(Erie, PA) - The Portland Sea Dogs (37-26) scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat the Erie SeaWolves (26-38), 5-1 on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park in front of 2,561. Portland ends a 3-game losing streak and improves to 3-1 against Erie this season.
Tony Granadillo's lone hit was a game-winning RBI double off losing pitcher Danny Zell (2-1) in the 10th inning with one-out.
Beau Vaughan (1-0) retired six of seven batters faced to earn his first decision of the year. Zell yielded four runs on three hits and two walks to take the loss.
Erie starter Danny Christensen hurled eight strong innings, scattering three hits and one run. Jeff Corsaletti beat Christensen with a solo-homer (8th) with two outs in the fifth inning, giving Portland a 1-0 lead. The lefty retired the final 10 batters faced after the long-ball.
Kris Johnson worked 5.1 scoreless frames for Portland on four hits and three walks. Johnson stranded seven runners over five innings and recorded two strikeouts in his 13th start of the season.
Erie tied the game in the eighth inning on a run-scoring single by Casper Wells off Chad Rhoades. The 'Dogs loaded the bases in ninth inning but Mark Wagner flied out to centerfield and Ryan Khoury was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
During Portland's 4-run 10th inning, Khoury nailed a 2-run single and Sandy Madera followed with an RBI single - both hits came with two outs.
Bubba Bell made a diving catch in the fifth inning off the bat off Jeff Frazier. Erie had runners at first and second with two outs.
Portland and Erie meet in game two of their series on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
