Harrisburg Senators News Release

Binghamton, NY - After midnight, the Harrisburg Senators let it all hang out as they rallied in the 9th inning to beat the Binghamton Mets, 4-3, in the series opener. The Senators missed several scoring opportunities Tuesday night, but came through with a pair of runs in the top of the 9th to pick up the victory.

Harrisburg rallied against B-Mets closer Eddie Kunz in the 9th. Down 3-2, Luis Jimenez drew a one-out walk. Then, Ofilio Castro drilled a double off the glove of the first baseman and down the right-field line to put runners at second and third. Andrew LeFave followed with an RBI groundout to tie the game at 3-3. Marco Yepez roped a pinch-hit RBI single to left to plate Castro with the go-ahead run.

The Mets mounted a threat in the bottom of the 9th as Jonathan Malo singled off RHP Steve Schmoll, but was caught trying to steal second base by catcher Devin Ivany. The caught stealing loomed large as two singles later, the Mets had two on with one out. LHP Tim Bittner came out of the bullpen to retire the final two batters and close out the game.

The win snapped the Senators' season-long five-game losing streak.

The Senators jumped ahead in the top of the 1st. Mike Daniel singled and went all the way around to third when the ball was misplayed by the center fielder. After the next two batters struck out, Daniel scored on a wild pitch to put the Senators on the scoreboard first.

Binghamton tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd, but LHP Mike Hinckley got off the hook in a threatening situation. Three straight singles loaded the bases to open the inning, then Hinckley induced a double play which tied the game at 1-1. A flyout ended the inning with no further damage.

In the 4th, the Senators took the lead back. LeFave drew a leadoff walk and moved to second when Hinckley laid down a sacrifice bunt. Daniel followed with a two-out RBI single to make it 2-1 Harrisburg.

The Mets again tied it in the bottom of the 6th. Nick Evans walked to start the inning. Dan Murphy singled and Caleb Stewart followed with an RBI base hit to knot the game at 2-2. LHP Yunior Novoa came on and walked the bases loaded, but induced a flyout and a strikeout to end the rally.

Binghamton took its first lead of the night in the 7th when Jose Coronado lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2. That set the stage for the Senators' 9th-inning comeback.

The lack of run support spoiled a solid outing for Hinckley. He went 5.1 innings, allowed two runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out a pair in a no-decision.

RHP Beltran Perez (2-2), who worked a scoreless 8th inning, picked up the win for Harrisburg. Bittner notched his second save of the year. Kunz took the loss to fall to 1-3.

The Senators moved to 35-27. The loss dropped the B-Mets to 34-29.

The series continues on Wednesday with a 7:05 first pitch in Binghamton. Harrisburg RHP Shairon Martis (4-3, 3.48 ERA) goes against B-Mets LHP Jonathan Niese (4-4, 3.48 ERA).
