Connecticut Overcomes Rain And Thunder In 6-3 Win Over Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- Connecticut RF Carlos Sosa had three hits, including a solo home run and an RBI double, to lead Connecticut past Trenton 6-3 on Tuesday night at Waterfront Park. The game had two rain delays of 1:01 and :22. Trenton had its five-game winning streak come to an end.
Connecticut (28-34) broke a 2-2 tie in the 4th inning with two runs to take a 4-2 lead. With runners at 1st and 2nd base and one out, 2B Olmo Rosario connected on an RBI double off of Thunder starting pitcher George Kontos (2-5) to give the Defenders a 3-2 lead. Connecticut tacked on a second run in the frame on an RBI groundout by CF Ben Copeland. Kontos toook the loss going 3.1 IP and giving up 7 H and 4 ER. He struck out 4 and walked 1.
After the first rain delay of 1:01, Sosa greeted Thunder reliever Zach Kroenke with a solo home run to start the top of the 5th inning to make it 5-3. Connecticut tacked on an insurance run in the 9th inning off of Thunder reliever Eric Wordekemper, as Sosa conected on an RBI double. Trenton (41-22) took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning against Connecticut starting pitcher Garrett Broshuis. C P.J Pilittere had an RBI double, and 3B Chris Malec followed with an RBI single in the frame. Pilittere would later tally a sacrifice fly RBI in the 4th inning for Trenton's only other run. Broshuis went 4 IP and gave up 4 H and 3 ER. Connecticut reliever Dave McKae (5-3) earned the win as he went 4 IP and scattered 3 H. He did not allow a run. Connecticut reliever Sergio Romo notched his 10th save of the season by striking out the side in the 9th. Edwar Gonzalez went 2 x 4 with 2 R in the loss for the Thunder.
Trenton will look to bounce back on Wednesday night as RHP Alfredo Aceves (1-1, 2.17) will start for Trenton against Connecticut LHP Paul Oseguera (0-1, 4.95). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
