Aerodynamics...

Cardiac Kids... After coming back from a 10-0 deficit in Portland to win 11-10 Saturday, the Aeros made another near-impossible return against the Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon in the series finale. Portland tagged Akron starter Frank Herrmann for six runs in the third inning, but the Aeros would pull Herrmann off the hook in the latter stages of the game. 2B Josh Rodriguez ripped an RBI triple in the sixth to get Akron on the board, and RF Stephen Head and 1B Matt Whitney singled to lead off the seventh. Then with one away, C Armando Camacaro greeted flame-throwing reliever Daniel Bard with a three-run homer over the mini Green Monster in left field to bring the Aeros to within 6-4. Akron capped the rally in the eighth, as 3B Wes Hodges and pinch-hitter Chris Gimenez delivered back-to-back singles with two gone. Then Whitney, who entered the game hitting .172 with runners in scoring position and two outs, gave the Aeros the lead with a three-run laser to straightaway center field. Aeros closer Randy Newsom turned in his league-leading 18th save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth, and the win gave Akron its first road sweep in 2008 and second sweep overall. The Aeros also tied a season-best with their fifth straight victory and climbed eight games above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Stiller Relief... RHP Erik Stiller picked up two wins on the road trip, including Sunday in the 7-6 comeback. Stiller mowed down the Sea Dogs in the sixth and seventh innings, allowing just one walk. He also claimed a victory in New Hampshire Thursday, tossing three shutout innings and allowing just two hits while striking out five. Stiller is now 3-1 on the year and lowered his ERA by more than two full runs on the road trip, from 7.94 to 5.51 entering tonight's game.

Still Streaking...2B Josh Rodriguez pushed his hitting streak to 13 games with his RBI triple Sunday, tying Brandon Pinckney's season-high run from May 5th-22nd. Rodriguez is hitting .298 (15-57) over his streak with four doubles, two triples, and 11 RBI. Rodriguez was particularly productive on the road trip, hitting .345 (10-29) with four multi-hit games. The former Rice University product drove in at least one run in all six games of the trip, and in fact collected 39% of his RBI for the entire season over the six games in New Hampshire and Portland (nine of 23). OF Bronson Sardinha also stayed hot as he carries an 11-game hitting streak into this homestand, hitting .292 (14-48) with two doubles, a home run, and 14 RBI during his streak. The Hawaii native has an RBI in eight of the 12 games he has played for the Aeros.

Leather, Rinse, Repeat...Perhaps one reason for Akron's five-game winning streak is the Aeros not hurting themselves with their gloves. The Aeros have not committed an error since the first inning Tuesday in New Hampshire (a span of 52 innings), and have now moved to fourth in the Eastern League in fielding percentage (.976) with just 54 errors in 60 games.
