Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Portland, ME) - Iggy Suarez delivered a run-scoring infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, rallying the Sea Dogs (66-57) past the Harrisburg Senators (68-59), 8-7, Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368 at Hadlock Field.
Suarez has two walk-off hits on the homestand, delivering an RBI single in the ninth inning on Tuesday against Altoona.
Portland led 6-0 after seven innings but Harrisburg scored five runs off Richie Lentz and Carlos Vasquez in the eighth inning. Lentz fanned the side in the seventh but issued three walks and struck out two in the eighth. Vasquez relieved Lentz with the bases-loaded and allowed all three inherited runners to score on a walk, single and a 2-run double.
In the ninth inning, Daniel Bard relieved Mike James and issued two walks but struckout Ian Desmond for the second out. Mike Daniel bounced a ground ball that was booted by 1B Lars Anderson, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs.
Portland came right back in the ninth inning. Aaron Bates led off with a solo homer into the right-field seats to tie the game at seven. Lars Anderson singled and was lifted for pinch-runner Bryan Pritz. Mark Wagner singled on an 0-2 pitch and Josh Reddick was intentionally walked. Steve Schmoll (2-4), who took the loss for Harrisburg, got Argenis Diaz to flyout to centerfield. On the play, Pritz tried to score and was thrown out at the plate, despite crashing into catcher Devin Ivany. Suarez battled Schmoll and hit a ground ball towards second base, which the 1B Bill Rhinehart went so far to his right to cut it off and had no throw to first base.
RHP Daniel Bard (3-1) allowed two unearned runs in the ninth inning but picked up the win. Schmoll worked 3.1 IP on six hits, two runs, two walks and a strikeout.
Josh Reddick finished 2-for-4 and blasted a 3-run homer in the fifth inning. Mickey Hall homered for the third straight day, crushing a solo-blast (12th) over the Portland bullpen in right field. Argenis Diaz smacked his first Double-A triple in the second inning.
Portland starter Ryne Lawson worked six scoreless innings on two hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
Portland looks for their fifth straight win on Saturday night when they host Harrisburg in game two of their 3-game series.
Notes...Mark Wagner has scored the game-winning run in both walk-off wins this homestand...Portland scored four runs with two outs.
