The New York Mets announced today that Luis Castillo has joined the Binghamton Mets for a Major League rehab assignment. He is expected to start all three games of Binghamton's series at Bowie.

Castillo hasn't played for the Mets since June 30th and he's been on the Disabled List since July 3rd with a strained left hip flexor. The switch-hitting second baseman was batting .261 with 42 runs and 13 steals in 68 games when he went down. Since August 1st, Castillo has played in five rehab games between the Rookie Gulf Coast League Mets and High-A St. Lucie, combining to go 1 for 20.

A 12-year Major League veteran, Castillo's also played for Minnesota and Florida. A three-time National League All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove winner, Castillo entered this season with a career average of .294 and 325 steals in 1,405 Major League games.

Castillo becomes the fourth Major Leaguer to rehab with the B-Mets this season. Pitcher Billy Wagner tossed a scoreless inning of relief at NYSEG Stadium Thursday. Pitcher Orlando Hernandez started at NYSEG Stadium on July 17th. Outfielder Moises Alou rehabbed with Binghamton in Connecticut July 8th and 9th.

Tonight, the Binghamton Mets begin a three-game series in Bowie against the Baysox at 7:05 p.m. The B-Mets return to NYSEG Stadium Monday for their final six home games of the season, against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Bowie Baysox.
