Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Mike Carp's solo homer accounted for the game's only run, as the Binghamton Mets held on for a 1-0 victory over the Bowie Baysox at Prince George's Stadium Friday. Binghamton has won three straight.

The game began as a pitchers' duel between Binghamton starter Mike Antonini and Bowie's Zach Clark. Antonini scattered five hits and two walks over seven shutout innings while Clark allowed four hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings, but neither figured in the decision.

Bowie (74-53) replaced Clark with Rommie Lewis (1-6), who struck out the first two he faced before Carp deposited one over the rightfield wall with one out in the ninth.

The B-Mets (66-61) got strong relief work from Joe Hietpas (2-4), who tossed a scoreless eighth and Tim Lavigne, who got the final three outs. Lavigne earned his seventh save in 11 chances.

Saturday, the Binghamton Mets play the second of three against the Bowie Baysox. Tobi Stoner (4-4, 3.78) will start for Binghamton against Jason Berken (10-3, 3.74) of Bowie. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Major League rehabber Luis Castillo was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and an error at second base before leaving the game in the eighth inning. Castillo has been on the NY Mets' Disabled List since 7/3 with a strained left hip flexor...Binghamton recorded their first save since Eddie Kunz earned one 8/1 @ NB...Carp has homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season (also 4/8-9 vs. AKR)...Binghamton pitchers recorded their 12th shutout of the season.
