Harrisburg Senators News Release

Portland, ME - The Harrisburg Senators came back from a 6-0 deficit to take a lead, but fell to the Portland Sea Dogs, 8-7, Friday at Hadlock Field. Iggy Suarez hit a walk-off infield single in the 9th to win it for Portland.

The Sea Dogs got on the board in the 2nd inning. Josh Reddick hit an RBI single to open the scoring and Argenis Diaz followed with a triple to make it 2-0.

The Senators had runners on base in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings, but hit into double plays in each inning. Harrisburg loaded the bases in the 5th and Garrett Guzman hit a high drive to the wall in right, but it was caught and turned into an inning-ending double play.

Portland struck again in the 5th when Reddick launched a three-run homer off RHP Carlos Martinez to make it 5-0. In the 6th, Mickey Hall belted a solo shot off Martinez to extend the margin to 6-0. Martinez plunked the next batter, Ryan Khoury, and was promptly ejected from the game.

Harrisburg mounted a furious rally in the top of the 8th. With two out, the Senators loaded the bases with three walks. Seth Bynum drew another free pass to make it 6-1. Marvin Lowrance followed with an RBI single to cut it to 6-2. A wild pitch allowed Mike Daniel to score. Ofilio Castro blooped a two-run double to cut it to 6-5.

The Senators completed the comeback in the 9th without a hit against fireballing RHP Daniel Bard. After Javi Herrera drew a leadoff walk, Guzman reached on a fielder's choice. Jemel Spearman followed with a walk and they moved up on a double-steal. After a strikeout, Mike Daniel, a college teammate of Bard's at the University of North Carolina, banged a ground ball to first base which was booted. Both runners scored to give the Senators their first lead of the night at 7-6.

In the bottom of the 9th, Aaron Bates drilled a solo home run to lead off the frame to tie the game at 7-7. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases with nobody out, but when Reyes hit a fly ball to shallow center, Daniel charged in, made the catch and fired a strike to the plate on the fly to nail the runner for a double play as Ivany was bulldozed at the plate but hung on to the ball. With runners at second and third and two out, Suarez worked the count full against Harrisburg RHP Steve Schmoll. He bounced a ground ball on the right side which didn't get out of the infield for a single which plated the winning run.

Schmoll was tagged with the hard-luck loss to fall to 2-4. Bard, who blew the save, picked up the win to move to 3-1.

The Senators dropped to 68-59. Portland improved to 66-57.

The Senators and Sea Dogs meet again Saturday at 6:00 PM. RHP Bobby Brownlie (8-2, 3.67 ERA) takes on Portland LHP Dustin Richardson (6-7, 7.13 ERA).
