Porter Leads Hitmen to 5-2 Win over Rebels

Red Deer, AB - Cody Porter made 42 saves in a first star performance backstopping the Calgary Hitmen to a 5-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday evening at the ENMAX Centrium.

The victory moves Calgary two points ahead the Rebels for first place in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference.

Jakob Stukel led the Hitmen, scoring three times including an empty net marker, to raise his season goal total to 19. Jake Bean and Keegan Kanzig also found the back of the net for the visitors with who received a pair of assists from Pavel Karnaukhov.

Adam Musil and Pesten Kopeck scored for the Rebels who lost for only the fourth time in 15 games at home this season.

Calgary, 21-12-1-1, will open a home and home set next weekend against the Medicine Hat Tigers to close out their pre-holiday break schedule. On Friday, Dec. 18 they visit Medicine Hat (7:30 p.m. MT, Sportsnet 960-TheFan) before the return match in Calgary at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, Dec. 19. Game time is 7:00 p.m. for "Breakfast Television and Sportsnet 960-The Fan's Fame For Food." Fans are asked to bring a non-perishable item to the game for donation to the food bank.
