Americans Outlast Chiefs 4-3

Spokane, WA- After the Tri-City Americans (12-18-1-0, 25 pts) had their Teddy Bear Toss night spoiled, the Americans returned the favor, taking down the Spokane Chiefs (16-12-2-1, 35 pts) 4-3 in front of 9,035 fans at Spokane Arena on Spokane's Teddy Bear Toss Night.

Less than three minutes into the game, Spokane scored as Riley Whittingham collected a turnover and slipped the puck into the goal to bring the stuffed animals onto the ice. Spokane outshot Tri-City 10-3 in the first and had the momentum going into the second period.

The Americans got some momentum going early in the second, and capitalized midway through the period. Vladislav Lukin scored on the power play on a wrist shot to tie the score at one. With nine seconds left in the second, Parker Bowles scored on the power play, firing a shot through the goalie's legs to push the Americans ahead 2-1 after two periods.

Shortly into the third, Spokane evened the score at two on a goal from Kailer Yamamoto. Three minutes later, Keanu Yamamoto fired a shot from the left point that found its way to twine to give Spokane a 3-2 lead. Tri-City tied the game soon after Spokane took the lead, as Beau McCue fired a shot past the goaltender's glove. With about four minutes left in the game, the Americans took the lead again, as Bowles tallied his second of the game. Spokane fought to tie the game, but Tri-City held on down the stretch for the win.

Tri-City snaps a two-game losing streak.

The Americans were 3-of-5 on the power play and recorded 12 penalty minutes. The Chiefs were 1-of-3 with a man advantage and spent 21 minutes in the penalty box.

Evan Sarthou stopped 27 shots in the win while Tyson Verhelst made 22 saves in the loss.

Tri-City will have a couple days off before taking on the Portland Winterhawks (15-15-0-0, 30 pts) this Tuesday, Dec. 15. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center. Tri-City lost the last meeting 5-2, in Portland. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the Toyota Center Box Office, at any Fred Meyer outlet or online at Ticketmaster.com.
