Game Story
In a back and forth first period, the goaltenders took centre stage as Tyler Brown and Brock Hamm combined to make 22 stops. Brown picked up right where he left off from his previous 32 save performance in Saskatoon by turning away 11 Blades opportunities. Hamm stopped a similar 11 shots, but the Pats did sneak one by. Jared Freadrich held in a clearing attempt and got a shot away under pressure. Adam Brooks managed to get a stick on the puck and tip it to the back of the net for the lone goal of the frame in a 1-0 Pats lead.
The second saw the Pats come flying out of the gate with chance after chance, but nothing seemed to work for the Regina based Blue and White. Brock Hamm turned away eight shots and the Pats saw chances from Austin Wagner, Connor Hobbs and Nikolai Knyzhov just whistle wide. Wagner was also turned away on a partial breakaway. Tyler Brown wasn't tested until late in the period, but the Pats goaltender held the line late to keep the score at 1-0 in favour of Regina.
The third period opened with the Blades finding a tying marker just 21 seconds in as Cameron Hebig jammed a rebound by Tyler Brown. The goal disrupted a 100:21 shutout streak against Saskatoon for the Pats netminder. Nobody could find a go-ahead goal in the third period, despite plenty of powerplay opportunities for both sides. Overtime was a shooting gallery as the teams totaled 13 shots on goal. Tyler Brown posted the highlight of the night when he robbed Wyatt Sloboshan on a breakaway to keep overtime going. With no goal in the overtime period, the game rolled along into a shootout. Connor Gay scored the only goal of the six round shootout to lift the Blades to the 2-1 win.
