Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - Four pitchers for the Biloxi Shuckers (36-62) combined to shut out the Rocket City Trash Pandas (49-47) in a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night at MGM Park.
The Shuckers yet again scored first against the Trash Pandas. Korry Howell singled with one out, and with Garrett Mitchell batting, stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. Howell then scored on a balk by RHP Davis Daniel (L, 1-3) to put Biloxi up 1-0. Mitchell drew a walk, Mitch Longo singled and Tristen Lutz singled, loading up the bases for Thomas Dillard, but Daniel struck out Dillard to strand the bases loaded.
RHP Carlos Luna got the start for Biloxi and allowed just a hit and a walk in his first two frames. The righty departed with an apparent injury while facing Torii Hunter Jr. to start the third inning. RHP J.T. Hintzen (W, 5-2) entered to replace him and turned in four stellar innings, allowing just two base runners on a walk and a single in the fourth. The righty finished his outing by retiring the last seven hitters he faced. All told, Hintzen hurled four frames and struck out five.
For the Trash Pandas, Daniel settled into the game and allowed just one hit over his final four frames of work. RHP Zach Lingenfelter pitched the sixth and allowed a single to David Fry but got a double play to end the inning.
RHP Zach Vennaro (H, 6) entered in the seventh and retired the side in order, striking out two. He came back out for the eighth and walked the lead-off batter, but got a fly out from Carlos Herrera and a strikeout of Hunter Jr. for the first two outs in the inning. With Ray-Patrick Didder batting, Christian Molfetta attempted to steal second but was thrown out by Fry, the second caught stealing of the night for the Shuckers' catcher.
In the ninth, RHP Taylor Floyd (S, 1) came in for the Shuckers and struck out Didder to begin the frame. Orlando Martinez muscled a single to left, just the third hit of the night for Rocket City, and Floyd responded with a groundout of Luis Aviles Jr. and a flyout from David MacKinnon to lock down his first save at Double-A.
With the series even at a game apiece, the Shuckers continue their six-game tangle with the Trash Pandas on Thursday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Lucas Erceg (1-5, 5.05) gets the start for the Shuckers while RHP Robinson Pina (0-1, 12.60) takes the hill for the Trash Pandas. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be seen on MiLB.TV.
