Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters (4-6) swept their first series of the season, taking Game Two by a score of 6-4 against the Kalamazoo Growlers (4-6).

The Growlers exploded early, recording five straight hits to open the ballgame. They managed two runs in the inning to take the quick lead.

Starter Mason Patel settled down afterwards. In his first start, Patel went five innings allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three. He allowed just two baserunners after the first inning.

The offense picked up Patel. Evan Orzech and Jared Miller both singled home runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to tie the game. In the third, Colin Summerhill led off with a single and came around to score the go ahead run. The Pit Spitters added another run with a two-out RBI single from Jake Smallwood in the fourth.

The Growlers got two runs to tie it in the seventh, but once again the Pit Spitters answered. They loaded the bases in the bottom half with one out. Lukas White worked a walk to score the go-ahead run. Two batters later, Brendan Summerhill did the same thing with two outs to go up 6-4.

Joe Horoszco got the win pitching four innings of relief. The righty struck out two in the ninth, stranding the tying run at first base and securing the sweep.
