Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - The Mallards welcomed the Lakeshore Chinooks to Warner Park for the third time in nine games in a 5-0 loss Wednesday night.
After an offensive explosion in Green Bay on Sunday, the Ducks have scored two runs in 18 innings of play in back-to-back home losses. Madison was shut down by the Rockers' Dylan Carter on Monday night and was shut down completely through seven innings tonight by Lakeshore's Scott Rouse. Rouse (9.0 IP, 3 H, 9 K) took a perfect game into the 8th inning when Payton Smith blooped a single into left field right over the glove of the Chinooks' shortstop. The Mallards had two more singles in the bottom of the 9th inning but weren't able to move a runner past second base in the contest.
The Chinooks scored all of their runs in a three-inning span. The biggest swing of the night was from Aidan Longwell who deposited a hanging breaking ball from reliever Seth Marano to right field, giving the Chinooks a 5-0 lead. The Mallards started Michael Finan (L, 0-1) for the second time this season. Finan (4.2 IP, 4 ER, 3 BB) threw 72 pitches before being pulled in the 5th for Marano. Thomas Ellisen and Declan Elias were the two other arms used in the contest for the Mallards. Although the bats were shy Wednesday, J.T. Mabry played especially well at second base. He contributed on the defensive end with multiple eye-catching plays, including a glove side sliding play where he spun 360 degrees and delivered a perfect throw to first.
The Mallards hit the road for one game in Lakeshore before opening a two-game series with Wausau at Warner Park. Mallards' coverage can be found on Mixlr (MadisonMallards) at 5:55 PM tomorrow from Lakeshore.
