Portland Pirates News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that Portland Pirates center Andy Miele has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 15, 2013.
Miele recorded three goals and five assists for eight points along with a plus-4 rating in three games, including the first hat trick of his professional career.
On Wednesday night, Miele notched an assist in regulation and scored the winning goal in the shootout as the Pirates rallied for a 4-3 victory over Providence. In Friday's rematch with the Bruins, Miele tallied two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss. And on Saturday vs. Worcester, Miele scored three times - once at even strength, once on the power play and once shorthanded - and tied a career high with five points as Portland downed the Sharks, 5-1.
With 10 points in his last four games, Miele has climbed into the top 20 in the AHL scoring race, and he leads Portland in goals (10), assists (14) and points (24) in 22 games played overall. The third-year pro from Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., has also appeared in four National Hockey League games with the parent Phoenix Coyotes this season, picking up his first two career NHL points on Oct. 29 vs. Los Angeles. Miele has totaled 45 goals and 86 assists for 131 points in 161 career AHL games, along with two assists in 12 NHL contests with the Coyotes. The 2011 Hobey Baker Award winner at Miami University signed as a free agent with Phoenix on Apr. 2, 2011.
In recognition of his achievement, Miele will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Pirates home game.
