Pink in the Rink Raises over $31,000 to Help Fight Breast Cancer

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals, held the 10th Annual Pink in the Rink presented by Trident Health last Saturday, March 5. The evening featured various fundraising opportunities for fans, highlighted by the live jersey auction following the game. In total, the Stingrays raised over $31,000 going directly to local charity Share Our Suzy to support the fight against breast cancer.

On this special evening, the Stingrays skated on pink ice and wore special pink accented jerseys, while welcoming breast cancer survivors to the game. While the game went to the Adirondack Thunder, 3-2 in overtime, the night was a massive success as the Stingrays welcomed 7,129 fans, and helped raise funds to benefit Share Our Suzy, a Charleston-based non-profit organization, which allows patients to focus on recovery and not financial stress, and aims to enhance the quality of life for breast cancer patients in South Carolina.

"We enjoy partnering with the Stingrays to support Share Our Suzy," said Todd Gallati, CEO of Trident Health. "Trident Health takes breast cancer management seriously, from early detection to treatment. We have compassionate staff in Medical Imaging and at our Breast Care Center who ensure our patients receive quality care. Treatment can be overwhelming. Our breast cancer Nurse Navigator uses organizations like Share Our Suzy to give patients as much support as possible."

The special jerseys worn that evening featured the Stingrays logo in pink, plus the names of over 50 breast cancer survivors integrated into gray striping of the jersey. After the game, the jerseys were auctioned off with the proceeds going to Share Our Suzy. In total, the live auction raised $27,500, with forward Jared Staal's jersey gaining the highest bid at $3,000. Fans could also play their luck as the club raffled off captain Andrew Rowe's jersey, raising an additional $4,400.

Additional funds were raised through the purchase of group tickets for the game. $2 of each group ticket purchased was donated back to Share Our Suzy. The club also sold pink Mystery Pucks, featuring a players' autograph and the chance to win a Meet and Greet with a Stingrays player, that raised funds to help the fight against breast cancer. Pink merchandise was sold throughout the evening, with a portion of all pink merchandise sales donated. Sales of pink items such as hats, shirts, hoodies, blankets and mini-sticks helped benefit Share Our Suzy.

Funds were also raised via Pink Packs, an exclusive package purchased by fans in advance that included a locker room tour, pre-game Hockey 101 session, and pink merchandise items. $10 of every Pink Pack sold was donated to Share Our Suzy.

Additional signs of support shown through the evening included a special "In Honor and Memory Of" wall on the concourse where fans were asked to write a name, brief message or simply sign in support of those who have been impacted by breast cancer. A powerful pregame presentation included the waving of 2,000 pink glowsticks in the crowd while breast cancer survivors were introduced.

In the 10 year history of the event, the Stingrays have raised over $255,000 to help the fight against breast cancer. This is the second year the Stingrays have partnered with Trident Health and Share Our Suzy, with the two events generating over $62,000 going directly to local charity.
