Matt Johnson Named Steelheads Employee of the Year
March 9, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - The Idaho Steelheads are proud to announce this week that Matt Johnson, the team's Director of Creative Services and Game Operations, has been named the organization's Employee of the Year for 2015.
"MJ", as he's known around CenturyLink Arena, joined the Steelheads organization in 2006 as the in-arena host for Steelheads games. He is now in his fourth season as Director of Game Operations and Creative Services, coordinating the fan experience inside CenturyLink Arena on Steelheads game days and designing materials from the marketing side of Block 22, LLC.
Johnson scripts and coordinates arena music and scoreboard videos for fan entertainment, schedules and executes pregame ceremonies and intermission entertainment, and continues to serve as CenturyLink Arena's in-arena host for all Steelheads games.
Johnson, a Boise native, is also instrumental on the web. Not only did he play a role in the design of the Steelheads' new website, but he also handles all graphic designs for the Steelheads' web presence and handles a large portion of the Steelheads' social media platforms.
Johnson has been instrumental in one of Idaho Sports Properties' growing brands, Front Street Fights at CenturyLink Arena. Not only does Johnson handle much of the web and marketing duties for the fight brand, as well as event coordinating, but he also serves as the television broadcaster for Front Street Fights on CableOne. Johnson was a strong influence in bringing Bellator MMA to Boise this Spring.
"Matt has always been such an important part of our family here at the Idaho Steelheads, but this year his contributions to our organization have been immeasurable," said Steelheads' President Eric Trapp. "He's a critical component of our fan experience and our marketing efforts, and we're so proud of the work he did for us this year."
Outside of the workplace, Johnson is still working hard to better his Boise community. He is a nominee to be named "Man of the Year" by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Under the name "Team Slats", Johnson is campaigning to raise money for cancer research in memory of his late step-father, Kent, who died of leukemia in April of 2012.
This is Johnson's first Employee of the Year award with the Steelheads.
Come meet Matt Johnson at any Steelheads home game this season. For tickets, call the Steelheads front office at 383-0080 or visit idahosteelheads.com.
