ALLEN, TEXAS - The Missouri Mavericks took a 4-2 loss to the Allen Americans on Wednesday night-their first defeat by their division rival since Oct. 31, 2015 of this season. The Mavs sit atop the ECHL with 95 points and have already earned themselves a spot in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Missouri will face-off against the Americans three more times this month at Allen Events Center.
One of the Mavericks most recent additions, Darian Dziurzynski, got Missouri on the scoresheet at 16:33 of the first period while in a power-play situation. C.J. Ludwig and Sebastien Sylvestre assisted on Dziurzynski's seventeenth goal of the season-his third for the Mavs.
Allen answered back 3:02 into the when the Americans were on their own man-advantage. Casey Pierro-Zabotel notched the goal, but before the home team point could even be announced, Dziurzynski worked quickly to give the Mavs back the lead at 3:48. Chris Owens and Trevor Ludwig were credited with the helpers on Dziurzynski's second goal of the night.
Then defenseman Mike Gunn was credited with a goal to tie the game up for the Americans when the puck deflected into the net past Parker Milner as the second frame neared its end.
Spencer Asuchak would make the game-winning goal for Allen at 5:48 of the third period, unassisted. The Mavs pulled Milner from the crease for a sixth skater, but the Americans capitalized on the empty net and scored an unobstructed tally for a 4-2 win via Chad Costello.
Parker Milner made 38 saves through 58:48 between the pipes for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks play their next home game on Friday, Mar. 11 against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05p.m. The game will be broadcast live on KSMO-TV as part of the Mavericks "Friday Night Ice" series-presented by Tickets For Less.
Friday night is Military Appreciation Night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Mavs will be wearing special military-themed jerseys which will be auctioned-off directly after the game in sections 101 and 102, with proceeds benefitting Folds of Honor.
All military personnel (active and non-active) are entitled to a $5 discount on any ticket in the arena (excluding loge and suite level), for the Mavericks game on Friday, Mar. 11. Must present military ID to redeem, available at the arena box office only, limit 5 tickets per ID.
