Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Lehigh Valley won their eighth-consecutive series by a razor thin margin on Sunday, taking the rubber match of their three-game set with Syracuse, 6-5. The win was historic for the Pigs, as it ties their franchise record mark of 27-games above .500 with a 70-43 record. Along with the season high mark, the Pigs have stepped above the overall .500 mark for the first time in franchise history, as the Pigs are now 775-774 all time.
Ranger Suarez dazzled on the mound early on, retiring the first eleven batters he saw, but hit a snag in the fourth inning when he gave up a pair of runs on three hits, all with two outs. Suarez eventually gave up a third run in the fifth, but still earned a quality start and his second win at Triple-A this year.
The Pigs scattered runs throughout the game, including a run in the third inning without a hit, an RBI single by Zach Green in the seventh, and a pair of two-run frames against Austin Voth (4-8). Danny Espinosa was responsible for most of the offense on the afternoon. The shortstop slugged a two-run home run to open the scoring in the second inning, and collected an RBI double in the fifth. Joey Meneses collected another multi-hit game, going 3-for-4, all singles, with a run scored and an RBI.
Dean Anna saw his historic 22 game hit streak come to an end by going 0-for-4 with a walk. The streak was one shy of tying the all-time record of 23 set by Scott Kingery last season.
Following a much needed off day on Monday, the Pigs will get back to action as they hit the road for six games against the IL West division. Lehigh Valley will face off against Indianapolis for the first time this season on Tuesday, with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch from Victory Field. Fans can see the Pigs at Coca-Cola Park again on August 13th when the Durham Bulls visit Allentown.
