Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Bats and Clippers meet in the series finale today at Huntington Park before the off day on Monday. Last night, Louisville lost a tough one, missing out on their fifth straight victory with a 5-4 loss in extra innings. Tonight, left-hander Justin Nicolino starts for Louisville to finish up the road trip after starting the team's first game of the seven-game trip on July 30 at Toledo.

AGAINST COLUMBUS: The series is on the line this afternoon at Huntington Park with the Bats looking to try to win their sixth consecutive series since being swept by the Clippers right after the All-Star break. In 20 total matchups so far this season, COL has outscored LOU by a 101-96 advantage. Overall, LOU is 2-3 in series against COL so far this season, looking to try to even it at 3 series apiece with a win.

LAST NIGHT: The Bats trailed 1-0 after the first inning of last night's game, before Brian O'Grady tied the game with a solo blast in the fourth inning. D.J. Peterson would hit his 14th homer (and his 100th as a professional) in the fifth, breaking a tie with Gabriel Guerrero for most homers on the team. Peterson added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with an RBI, giving the Bats a 3-1 lead before a Kevin Quackenbush blown save in the ninth, with the Clip Show eventually winning 5-4 after a walk-off hit by Bobby Bradley , part of a 4-for-5 night.

SIMS' SOLID DEBUT: Right-hander Lucas Sims made his Reds organizational debut on Saturday, tossing 5.0 innings in his start. He gave up just one run, a solo home run to former Bat Adam Rosales in the bottom of the first. Sims allowed 4 hits, walking none and striking out 6. His final line was very similar to that of Matt Wisler 's, with both right-handers coming over to the Reds organization in the same July 30 trade, along with OF Preston Tucker , that sent OF Adam Duvall to the Atlanta Braves. In Wisler's Bats debut on August 1 at Toledo, he also got a no-decision, going 5.0 innings and giving up one earned run on 5 hits, walking none and striking out 5.

60TH PLAYER COMING SOON: Sims was the 59th different player, Major League rehabbers included, to suit up in a Louisville uniform this season. In 2017, Louisville had 66 different players appear in a game. In 2016, 58 different players suited up for Louisville in a game.

WHAT DOG DAYS?: Since falling to a season-high 20 games below the .500 mark (35-55) on July 16, the Bats are 15-4 in their last 19 games despite the loss on Saturday. The 19-game run includes a 9-game winning streak from July 17-25, their longest win streak since the 2010 season.

SIX WITH A WIN TONIGHT: The Bats have won 5+ consecutive series for the first time since the 2010 season, the last time the Bats made the International League playoffs. In 2010, LOU won their first 7 series coming out of the All-Star break, taking 3 of 4 vs. Lehigh Valley (7/15-7/18), 3 of 4 at Charlotte (7/19-7/22), sweeping 3 at Gwinnett (7/23-7/25), sweeping 4 vs. Charlotte (7/27-7/30), taking 3 of 4 in a split-series against Columbus (7/31-8/4), sweeping 4 vs. Norfolk (8/5-8/8), and finally, sweeping 4 at Toledo (8/9-8/12) to start the second half that season with an immaculate 24-3 record.
