Pierro-Zabotel Called Up

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced on Wednesday.

Pierro-Zabotel, 21, has tallied 39 points (12+27) to make him 5th on the Nailers at the time of his recall.

The 6'2" 191 lb native of Ashcroft, British Columbia spent the last two seasons with the Vancouver Giants, posting 115 points (36+79) in 72 regular-season games last year and set records of 79 assists and 115 points en route to Bob Clarke Trophy as the leading scorer in the Western League along with a unanimous WHL 1st Team All-Star selection.

He had 48 points (19+29) in 49 games in the season previous to that.

Pierro-Zabotel began his career with the BCHL Merritt Centennials where he posted 12 points (6+6) in 04-05, 55 points (20+35) in 05-06 and 116 points (51+65) in 06-07 respectively.

Pierro-Zabotel was called up to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Jan. 21st where he appeared in 7 games and was later reassigned to Wheeling on Feb. 18th.

The Nailers are back in action this weekend with a Saturday night game at Johnstown and then a Sunday afternoon home game against Kalamazoo at 3:05. The Saturday game at Johnstown is the last game ever in the long rivalry of the Nailers and Chiefs. The Sunday home game against Kalamazoo features a post-game skate after the game with the Nailers players.

Earlier on Sunday at 1pm is the annual Guns and Hoses benefit game. Members of the Wheeling Police and Fire Departments will play members of the Pittsburgh Police and Fire Departments to benefit charity. The Guns and Hoses Benefit game begins at 1:05.
