Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have traded with Elmira for rookie winger Bear Trapp and future considerations in exchange for the rights to Thomas Beauregard.
Trapp, 25, hails from Regina, Saskatchewan and is in his first full season of professional hockey. He began the season in the Central Hockey League totaling seven games between the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and the Laredo Bucks where he earned one assist. Elmira signed the 6-1, 195-pound winger on January 15, 2010 and he has since skated in 20 games with the Jackals. He has been a productive playmaker for Elmira with nine assists and four goals to go along with 18 penalty minutes. Four times this season Trapp has posted two assists in a game, and he scored a goal in his most recent contest on March 7 in Johnstown.
A prolific scorer at Sacred Heart University, Trapp never finished lower than second in team scoring in a season. He amassed 156 points (56G, 100A) in 140 games and led the team with 33 (10G, 23A) as a senior in 2008-09. At the conclusion of his senior season Trapp signed on for six regular season and one playoff game with the Jackals. He promptly scored two goals against the Chiefs in his pro debut and added a goal and an assist in the following games. Bear failed to register a point in his playoff debut.
The Chiefs acquired the rights to Beauregard, along with future considerations, a week ago today from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for Jordan Morrison. Beauregard did not report to the Chiefs and was suspended the same day.
Trapp is expected to be in the lineup when the Chiefs host the Reading Royals and Wheeling Nailers this weekend.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs return to home ice on Friday, March 12 against the Reading Royals at 7:05. Be sure to get to the game early as the Chiefs and UPMC are giving away free baseball caps to the first 1,000 fans through the door.
