Royals Sign Defenseman Steven Kaunisto

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Steven Kaunisto ["kah KNEE stoh"] to an ECHL Standard Player's Contract. Kaunisto (6'0/193) (23), who hails from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, completed his college eligibility at Lake Superior State University when the Lakers were knocked out of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs by the University of Michigan Wolverines last week. In thirty-eight regular season games this past season, Kaunisto scored four goals and led defenseman on the team with eleven assists (fifteen points). In 154 total college games, Kaunisto racked up a total of fifty-nine points (14g-45a59pts) and picked up sixty-eight penalty minutes.

The Royals return to action tomorrow (Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 7:05) when the team travels to the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, for the last time in team history where they'll take on the Johnstown Chiefs. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will begin at 6:35 pm.
