Phil Sauve Named Sher-wood AHL Player of the Week

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY Bears announced today in conjunction with the American Hockey League that goaltender Phil Sauve has been named Sher-wood AHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 15th. The Bears goaltender earned a tie and a win in Norfolk against the Admirals on Wednesday and Friday, and then followed that up with his second shutout of the season Sunday against Wilkes Barre/Scranton.

Sauve was 2-0-1 for the week with a goals against average of 0.97, and he also had a saves percentage for the week of 96.1 percent. Sauve leads the AHL in wins with 12, and his 2.08 goals against average ranks him second in the league. In recognition of his achievement, Sauve will receive a Sher-wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming Bears home game. In addition, Sher-wood will donate 5 travel bags to the Hershey Area Minor Hockey Association in Sauve's name.

The Buffalo, New York native was also the last Bear to be named Sherwood AHL Player of the week, earning the honor last season for the week of February 3rd. He was also honored last season as the ITECH AHL Goaltender of the Month for both February and March.

Sauve and the Bears return to the ice this Friday at the First Union Spectrum in Philadelphia against the Phantoms. Face-off Friday night is at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard on the Bears' flagship radio station, BIG 92.7 FM.
