HERSHEY, Pa. (Sunday, December 15, 2002) - Eric Bertrand, Mark Freer and Charlie Stephens each scored a goal, while goaltender Phil Sauve made 29 saves to record his second shutout of the season as the Hershey Bears blanked the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-0, before a crowd of 6,476 at the Giant Center.

The Penguins fell behind early as Bertrand skated out from behind the Penguins' net and fired a wrist shot from the bottom of the face off circle past goaltender Robbie Tallas for his sixth goal of the season at 12:53 of the first period.

The Bears scored twice in the second period when Freer scored his ninth of the season at 6:55 and Stephens added a power play goal at 12:31 to give Hershey a commanding 3-0 lead.

That was all of the scoring the Bears would need as Sauve stopped all 29 shots faced, including 14 in the first period as he recorded his second career shutout against the Penguins.

With the win, Hershey improved to 15-6-6-1 (37 points), while the Penguins fell to 11-13-2-2 on the season.

The Penguins return home to host the Binghamton Senators on Tuesday. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
