SATURDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers open a pre-Christmas, two-game road trip beginning with a Saturday night clash in Trenton against the Titans. Charlotte is 0-1-0 against Trenton so far in the six-game season series. Charlotte was beaten 3-2 in Trenton on November 28. The Titans begin the week in sixth place in the ECHL's Northeast Division with a record of 12-11-2 for 26 points. Trenton is paced offensively by center Adam Edinger with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points. In goal, David St. Germain has played in 19 of the Titan's 25 games so far.
SUNDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers close out the two-game road trip in Reading, PA with a 2:05 pm start against the Royals. The Checkers are 0-1-0 against Reading so far this season via a 6-3 loss at Cricket Arena last Friday. Charlotte plays a seven-game season series against Reading in 2002-03. The Royals begin the week in fifth place in the ECHL's Northeast Division with a 15-15-1 record for 31 points. Reading has played seven more games than the Checkers so far. Center Brian McCullough leads the Royals and the ECHL in scoring entering this week with 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points.
CHECKERS RECENT MOVES AND TRANSACTIONS:
· Wednesday, December 11 â Goalie Bryce Wandler was recalled by Hartford.
· Wednesday, December 11 â Goalie Scott Meyer was assigned by Hartford.
· Friday, December 13 â Checkers sign free agent left wing Dave Inman to a Contract.
· Sunday, December 15 â Defenseman Nick Bilotto was loaned to Hartford
· Sunday, December 15 â Goalie Scott Meyer was recalled by Hartford
· Monday, December 16 - Suspended defenseman Wes Jarvis.
CHECKERS SUSPEND WES JARVIS â DEFENSEMAN DECIDES TO GO TO COLLEGE: Charlotte defenseman Wes Jarvis has decided to leave hockey and continue his education by going to college. He has been suspended by the Checkers and will remain Charlotte property should he decide at a later date to return to hockey.
INMAN IS "IN" WITH CHECKERS FANS: Checkers left wing Dave Inman has gotten off to a solid start for the Checkers since being signed last Friday. Inman has three goals and two assists for five points in just two games with the Checkers. Inman just completed a 15 game tryout agreement with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he scored a goal and six assists for eight points in 13 games. The Toronto, Ontario native was a # 2 draft pick (59th overall) by the New York Rangers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
CHECKERS HAVE STILL PLAYED FEWEST GAMES: The Checkers enter this week, along with Cincinnati, as having once again played the fewest number of games in the ECHL so far this season at 24.
SUZUKI 13TH IN ECHL ROOKIE SCORING: Charlotte rookie Japanese right wing Takahito Suzuki is tied for 13th among rookie scorers with 12g-9a=21pts.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Checkers are fifth-best in the ECHL in shots against with a per-game average of only 29.29. Charlotte is third in the ECHL in home power play percentage, clicking at a 24.3% efficiency, and are tenth overall at 19.7%.
CHECKERS ATTENDANCE: The Checkers are currently seventh of 27 teams in attendance in the ECHL averaging 4,264 per game through 11 home dates.
