December 16, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
Fedor Fedorov scored his second overtime goal of the season with 2:15 gone by in the extra session on Friday, giving Manitoba a 4-3 win over Manchester at Winnipeg Arena. After a scoreless first period, the teams went back and forth the rest of the night. Ryan Flinn and Jared Aulin scored 72 seconds apart to turn a 1-0 Monarchs deficit into a 2-1 lead, but Jason King and Brian Chapman put the Moose back in front. Richard Seeley's first goal of the season tied the game at 3-3 and allowed Manchester to earn the road point for getting the game to overtime.
Alexander Zevakhin's first three goals of the season provided the difference as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defeated Syracuse on Saturday, 6-3. Matt Hussey actually put the Penguins ahead to stay at 2-1 midway through the second period before Zevakhin scored twice late in the frame. The former second-round draft pick then finished his hat trick with an insurance marker in the third after the Crunch had pulled back to within a goal. Rob Scuderi and Shane Endicott had two assists each for the Pens.
Denis Hamel scored twice and Jaroslav Kristek had a goal and an assist as Rochester erased a three-goal deficit to earn a 5-5 tie in Binghamton on Saturday. The Senators led 4-1 before Jiri Novotny scored with 6:37 left in the second period, and Kristek's power play goal with 1:57 remaining in regulation capped the comeback. Ryan Miller finished with 41 saves for the Amerks, who were playing at the Broome County Arena for the first time since 1997.
Martin Samuelsson scored four times and Keith Aucoin added three goals and three assists as Providence swept a home-and-home series from Hartford, 4-2 and 7-4. The Bruins scored three power play goals in Saturday's opener and Tim Thomas made 26 saves as the Wolf Pack suffered just their second regulation loss this season on home ice. In Sunday's rematch, Jarno Kultanen added a goal and two assists for the B's as Providence improved to 11-3-2-1 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
