Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Josh Phegley provided the Intimidators with their second walk-off win in as many nights, as Kannapolis downed Lexington 8-7 in 10 innings on Wednesday evening at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
The Intimidators backstop doubled to the left-centerfield gap off of Kirkland Rivers in the 10th inning to score Jon Gilmore from first base for the game-winning run. The double came after Phegley had failed to get a bunt down one pitch prior.
Gilmore reached to start the inning thanks to a leadoff walk from Rivers (0-1), who faced just two batters upon entering the contest to open the 10th.
The 10th inning run capped a wild night that saw the Intimidators rally from deficits of 4-0 and 6-4. It was Lexington though that had the final comeback, pushing across an unearned run in the top of the eight to tie the game, 7-7. Albert Cartwright reached on a Gilmore error, stole second and was brought in on an RBI single with two outs from Eric Suttle. The run was charged to Dan Albritton, though Suttle's hit was against Dan Remenowksy (7-3), who blew his seventh save of the season while also taking his seventh win.
Remenowsky struck out three and went 2 1/3 innings, his longest outing of the season.
Kannapolis mounted the big early comeback against starter Brad Dydalewicz, who was the victim of some shaky defense. The Legends committed five errors, leading to four unearned runs against the starter.
Stephen Sauer was far from his best in his start for the Intimidators. The right-hander gave up a season-most six runs, five earned, in 4 2/3 innings. He also allowed 11 hits, though 10 were singles.
