Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - Despite coming back from a 5-0 deficit, the Sioux Falls Pheasants could not overcome the Lincoln Saltdogs in 7-6 loss on Wednesday night.

The Pheasants dropped their second in a row to Lincoln, who beat the Pheasants earlier on Wednesday in the completion of a suspended game from Tuesday night. The Pheasants lead over the Saltdogs has shrunk to two games with 11 contests left in the first half.

The Saltdogs took the lead and never lost it with three runs in the bottom of the first, including a sacrifice fly from Phil Hawke and a two-run home run from Argelis Nunez. They extended the lead to 5-0 with four singles in the third inning. That was enough to chase Pheasants starter Brian Flores (1-3) from the mound. Flores gave up five runs on six hits in the loss. He walked one and struck out two.

Brandon Sing launched the beginning of a comeback with his league-best 14th home run of the year in the fourth inning. The blast to right-center field cut the lead to 5-2. Each club notched a run in the fourth, and Juan Richardson hit a solo home run off Pheasants reliever Travis Kane to stretch the lead to 7-3.

The Pheasants rallied for three runs in the sixth inning on four singles and a double, which brought the Pheasants within a run, 7-6. Lincoln starter Chris Britton (4-3) then exited the ballgame. He allowed six runs and nine hits, but it was still enough for a win.

Chris Thompson recorded his league-leading 13th save by inducing Reggie Abercrombie into a game-ending double play.

Abercrombie and Tim Hutting had three hits apiece to pace the Pheasants offense, while Sing finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

The finale of the three-game series is at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, June 24. The game can be heard on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN.
