Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - It didn't take long for a resolution of Tuesday night's game on Wednesday.
Phil Hawke, the first batter to the plate after play was suspended from the night prior, delivered a game-winning double to give the Lincoln Saltdogs a 4-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Pheasants in the bottom of the 10th inning. The two clubs played to a 3-3 tie before Mother Nature brought the game to a halt on Tuesday night.
The Saltdogs pulled to three games behind the first-place Pheasants, who fall to 25-11 on the year. There are 12 games remaining in the first half of the season.
Hawke's double off Pheasants reliever Andrew Pluta (1-2) came with two outs and scored Albenis Machado. It was his only hit of the game. Machado drew a walk just before play was stopped last night.
Reggie Abercrombie broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a two run home run to left field. He tripled in the seventh inning and was brought home by Beau Torbert, who knocked in his 40th RBI of the season.
The Saltdogs evened the game at 3-3 with Gavin Dickey's three run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Saltdogs reliever Adam Daniels (4-0) pitched two perfect innings of relief in the ninth and 10th innings to earn the win. He struck out five of the six Pheasants he faced.
The Pheasants are members of the American Association, a 10-team independent professional baseball league playing its fifth season this summer. Individual and group ticket information is available by calling (605) 333-0179. Fans can also visit the Pheasants at www.sfpheasants.com.
