El Paso Diablos News Release
El Paso, TX - El Paso scored six runs in the top of the first and rode that momentum to an 11-3 win over the Grand Prairie Airhogs. With the win El Paso takes the series from the Airhogs, winning just their third series win of the season.
El Paso built up a 6-0 lead after one inning. With the bases loaded it was Kyle Nichols hitting a grand slam, the first this year for El Paso. Later in the inning it was Adam Deleo stepping up with his first home run the season, a two run shot to push the lead to six. The Airhogs would come back. They would load up the bases with no one out in the second and scored two runs before adding another in the third inning to cut the lead to 6-3. El Paso was able to push their lead to a more comfortable 8-3 advantage in the sixth inning when a throwing error allowed two runs to score. The Diablos broke the game open with three runs in the seventh inning with Jeff Vincent, Deleo, and Reynoso all driving in a run.
Shaun Ellis started and was wild as he walked seven, but stuck around for five innings to pick up the win. Ellis (7-1) allowed three runs on four hits while striking out two. His counterpart Matt Green did not make it out of the first inning as he gave up five runs on three hits and two walks before exiting. William Buzhard pitched the final four innings and did not allow a run to pick up his first professional save.
The Diablos offense had 11 hits. Adam Deleo led the way going 2-3 with a home run, two walks and three RBI. Jeff Vincent went 2-4 with an RBI while Bryon Smith went 2-2 with two walks. The Diablos also walked a season high nine times in the game, breaking their previous season high they set from game one of the series.
El Paso now heads over to Shreveport for the next leg of their journey to face the Captains who lead the sound division. Amad Stephens (2-4, 4.78) will be on the mound for game one. First pitch is slated for 6:05. The game can be heard online at www.diablos.com.
