Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - This is the kind of performance that the coaches and players in the Asheville Tourists clubhouse envisioned coming into the 2016 season. The Tourists are talented in all areas but have come up on the wrong side of a number of close games. Tonight, Asheville erased some doubt with a blistering 10-0 victory over the Lexington Legends.
Offensively, the Tourists were in rhythm from the start. Mylz Jones, Josh Fuentes, and Terry McClure all collected three hits in the game. Brian Mundell also added a pair of doubles. Asheville netted three runs in the first, four in the fourth, and three more in the sixth.
The pitching was even more impressive. Peter Lambert earned his first win of the year with five shutout innings. Lambert, just two days after his 19th birthday, did not allow a hit or a walk in his final three frames of work. Dylan Craig followed Lambert with four shutout innings of his own. Craig has not allowed a run in his last eight innings pitched. By pitching the last four innings, Craig notched his first save of the season.
Defensively, Asheville made a number of highlight plays. Yonathan Daza climbed the wall in right early in the game to take a base hit away from Lexington's Chase Vallot. Jones one upped Daza with a leaping over the shoulder grab late to take extra-bases away from D.J. Burt.
The Tourists finished their seven-game homestand on a high note after dropping four of the first six games. Asheville also set a couple of season-highs in the win; they recorded seven doubles and stole five bases.
Next up is a four-game road trip that takes place in Rome, GA. The Tourists and the Braves have already split a four-game series this year.
