PREVIEW: The Shorebirds close the seven game homestand and three game series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers tonight at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Greensboro is the Class A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Shorebirds have won two of their last three games, including a 3-1 victory last night to even the series at 1-1. Greensboro is a game behind Delmarva in the Northern Division standings and sits six games out of first place. Tonight will be the third of 22 meetings this season between the two teams.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Right-hander Kevin Guzman takes the ball for the Grasshoppers in the rubber match. Guzman is 0-1 with a 1.86 ERA this year in two starts. He took the loss against West Viriginia on April 10th when he gave up three runs (one earned) in 4.2 innings. His last start, he left with a no-decision against Lakewood, allowing one run and four hits in five innings. He struck out five Blue Claws in that contest. Guzman signed his original professional contract with the LA Dodgers before joining the Marlins organization in 2015. He is a 6-3, 165 pound 21 year old pitched from Maracay, Venezuela.
ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles' First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore's farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O's most highly-touted farmhands. RHP's Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well.
