Legends Homestand: 'Boogie' Bobblehead, Pharoah Jerseys and More
April 20, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release
A former University of Kentucky basketball star will be recognized with a bobblehead giveaway Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The bobblehead of DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins is part of a four-game Lexington Legends homestand that opens Thursday night.
In addition, jerseys worn by Legends players for Saturday night's game will honor 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Fans can take part in a raffle or a silent auction to win or buy a jersey.
The Legends, class A affiliate of the World Series champion Kansas City Royals, will play at home Thursday through Sunday against the West Virginia Power, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The schedule:
Thursday, April 21: Legends vs. West Virginia, 7:05 p.m. Every Thursday home game is a Kentucky Ale Thirsty Thursday, and beer and Pepsi products will sell for one dollar each. Every Thursday is also Bark in the Park night, and fans can bring their dogs to the game. A two-dollar donation for each dog will go to a local animal shelter.
Friday, April 22: Legends vs. West Virginia, 7:05 p.m. A bobblehead depicting Cousins, now with the Sacramento Kings of the NBA, will be given to the first 1,000 fans entering the ballpark.
Saturday, April 23: Legends vs. West Virginia, 6:35 p.m. Legends will wear uniform jerseys patterned after the silks worn by jockey Victor Espinoza when he rode American Pharoah to victory in the 2015 Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont. Fans can win one of the special jerseys in either of two ways: For five dollars each, fans can buy scratch-off tickets during the game, and winning tickets can be exchanged for a jersey. Also during the game, fans can bid on jerseys in a silent auction that will be set up on the concourse outside the Kentucky Ale Taproom. Proceeds will go to Legends Charities Fund.
Sunday, April 24: Legends vs. West Virginia, 2:05 p.m. It's a JIF Kids Club Sunday. Kids Club members receive free admission to the game. All kids may run the bases after the game. Membership in the Kids Club is free.
"It's a short homestand, but one that has a lot of great attractions," said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. "It will be a big weekend of fun and Legends baseball at Whitaker Bank Ballpark."
