Adirondack Phantoms News Release
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Wednesday, November 14- Phantoms vs. Wilkes/Barre Penguins, 11:05: It's the annual School Day Game at the Wachovia Spectrum, as the Phantoms and Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins) meet for an 11:05 AM start. It's the fourth meeting between the two clubs, and the Phantoms have won all three games so far. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is 6-6 on the season for 12 points, good for fifth place in the East Division. Jeff Taffe leads the team with seven goals and a total of ten points. He's scored four of those 10 points against the Phantoms, including two of the goals.
Friday, November 16- Phantoms vs. Binghamton Senators, 7:05: The Phantoms and the Senators (Ottawa Senators) tangle for the second consecutive weekend when the Sens visit the Wachovia Spectrum. The Phantoms have won nine consecutive games against Binghamton dating back to last season, including a win last Saturday when Philadelphia took a 2-0 shutout victory thanks to an 18-save effort by Scott Munroe. The Senators will head into the game having not scored a goal in three consecutive contests. Former Flyers and Phantoms winger Niko Dimitrakos has four goals and two assists for six points in eight games for the Senators.
POTULNY NAMED Rbk/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Center Ryan Potulny was named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 11. Potulny returned from injury this weekend to carry the Phantoms to three wins nearly single-handedly, scoring the game-winning goal in all three games over the course of the weekend. More information is available in the release that came out earlier today.
SHAKE YOUR MAC 'N CHEESE
You can provide your own noisemaker this Friday night and help the less fortunate at the same time on "Shake Your Mac 'N Cheese Night" at the Wachovia Spectrum. Fans are asked to bring boxes of macaroni and cheese to shake during the game. Then afterwards, fans are asked to drop the boxes off on their way out the door. All the food will be donated to area food banks and shelters. The Phantoms will also be collecting canned goods as fans enter the game on Friday.
MEET BEN EAGER ON FRIDAY
Flyers winger Ben Eager, who was part of the Phantoms 2005 Calder Cup championship team, will be on hand Friday night to sign autographs for fans prior to the evening's 7:05 game against the Binghamton Senators. Eager will be available on the concourse between 6 and 7 PM.
ANNUAL SCHOOL DAY GAME THIS WEEK
The Phantoms are going to work early on Wednesday for the annual School Day Game at the Wachovia Spectrum. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be in town for the 11:05 AM face-off. The event, which is a partnership with the Philadelphia Inquirer, will encourage kids to think about and consider their future careers. All kids will receive a workbook to use during and after the game that will talk about various careers in and out of the world of hockey.
PHANTOMS NOTABLES
The Phantoms continue the best start in team history with a 13-1-1 record. The team is so far continuing to stay ahead of the 2004-05 Calder Cup team, which was 13-2 through 15 games. That team lost the first two games before firing off an AHL-record 17-game win streak, and was 17-2 through 19 games before losing game #20 to go to 17-3... The Phantoms streak of scoring at least one power play goal in every game this season is still alive. It took the overtime game-winner on Friday by Ryan Potulny to continue the streak - the Phantoms had been 0-for-7 on the man advantage before Potulny's power-play winner in the extra session... Last year's Phantoms team did not win its 13th game until January 5, a 5-3 win over Lowell. In doing so, the team went to 13-19-1-1... Steve Downie has seven assists in five games, posting at least one helper in every game he has played since joining the club on November 3...The Phantoms have now swept a three-game in three-night stretch three times already this season. To find the last three such occurrences, one has to go back to February of 2005. The Phantoms accomplished the feat early in the 2005-06 season from Nov. 25-27, 2005, and also did so late in the 2004-05 season on Feb. 18-20, 2005 and April 1-3, 2005... Scott Munroe is the top-ranked goaltender in the AHL in terms of goals-against average. He has a 6-0-0 record and a 1.68 GAA.... The Phantoms power play is third in the league at 24.1 percent, but has the most power-play goals in the league at 26. The penalty kill is sixth at 87.5 percent... Kyle Greentree and Jonathan Matsumoto both have 14 points, which ties them for second among AHL rookies... Alexandre Picard leads the league's defensemen with 11 assists and is second overall with 12 points.
TOYOTA CUP STANDINGS
Brian Boucher continues to lead the annual race for the Toyota Cup. Players are awarded points each time they are chosen as a star of the game, with five points given for a first star, three points for a second star and one point for a third star. The player with the most points at the end of the season will win a monetary donation to the charity of his choice courtesy of Toyota.
