Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The B-Sens (6-6-1-0, 13 pts.) were 0-3 this past week.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7th @ ALBANY (0-2 L): Special team points proved to be the difference in this midweek contest as the River Rats netted two power-play markers to snap the B-Sens four-game winning streak. The River Rats out shot Binghamton 38-28, including 18 to 9 in the middle period. Netminder Brian Elliott turned away 36 of 38 shots for the B-Sens.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9th vs. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (0-3 L): After a scoreless first period, Nathan Smith put the Penguins on the board when he backhanded home a rebound from a Ryan Lannon shot. Mark Ardelan quickly added a second Peguins goal to make it a 2-0 game. Ryan Stone capped the scoring when he advanced on a two-on-one break and slide the puck past netminder Jeff Glass. Glass had 34 saves for the B-Sens.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10th vs. PHILADELPHIA (0-2 L): The first place Philadelphia Phantoms kept the B-Sens off the scoreboard on Saturday night. Netminder Brian Elliott registered a career-high 41 saves for the B-Sens, 23 coming in the second period. Ryan Potulny put the Phantoms on the board early in the opening period. The B-Sens were skating short-handed from a bench minor for too many men when Potulny scooped the puck past Elliott. Boyd Kane added an insurance marker late in the first period to finish the scoring.
THIS WEEK: The B-Sens are slated for three games in three nights this weekend. They get another crack at the Phantoms on Friday night in Philadelphia before returning home to host the defending Calder Cup champion Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday night. Binghamton finishes the weekend in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday evening for its third game against the Penguins this season.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16th @ PHILADELPHIA (7:05): The Phantoms continue their winning ways as they defeated the Albany River Rats 2-1 on Sunday. The victory extended their winning streak to five games. The Phantoms have six players with 10 or more points this season. Netminder Scott Munroe is a perfect 6-0-0 in goal for the Phantoms this season.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17th vs. HAMILTON (7:05): The B-Sens face off against the defending Calder Cup champion Hamilton Bulldogs for the first time since February 25, 2006. The Bulldogs are off to a slow start this season, going 4-6-0-3 through 13 games. Right winger Sergei Kostitsyn leads the way for Hamilton with 13 points (3+10=13), while center Maxim Lapierre has seven markers this season.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18th @ WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (5:05): The B-Sens defeated the Penguins 4-2 in their last visit to Wachovia Arena on Saturday, Oct. 27. Captain Denis Hamel collected his franchise-leading sixth hat trick to power the B-Sens to victory. Jeff Taffe continues to pace the attack for the Penguins with seven goals and three assists for 10 points.
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: The B-Sens will be at the annual Meet the Players Booster Club dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 6-9 p.m. This year's dinner takes place at the Polish Community Center.
SENS SNIPPETS: Netminder Brian Elliott collected an AHL career-high 41 saves against Philadelphia on Saturday night. Winger Danny Bois topped 700 penalty minutes on Friday night against the Penguins. His 701 penalty minutes are second in B-Sens franchise history to Brian McGrattan's 1051.
