Manitoba hosted Milwaukee for two games in Week 5, falling 2-1 to the Admirals on Friday, Nov. 9 and bouncing back with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory the following night. Scoring his first goals of the season, rookie Mason Raymond netted Manitoba's lone goal in Game 1 and then added a third-period goal in Game 2, triggering his first professional goal-scoring streak.

Friday, November 9, 2007: Admirals 2 - Moose 1 L

The Milwaukee Admirals defeated the Manitoba Moose 2-1 at the MTS Centre Friday night. Playing in only his second game of the season, Maxime Daigneault earned the win and first-star honours for Milwaukee, while rookie Mason Raymond scored the lone Moose goal. Both teams meet again Saturday night.

Saturday, November 10, 2007: Admirals 3 - Moose 4 W

Despite trailing 3-1 after two periods of play, the Manitoba Moose scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 Saturday night. Four players -- including rookies Mason Raymond and Michael Grabner -- scored for Manitoba, while Drew MacIntyre stopped 23 of 26 shots for the win.

The Moose play three games in Week 6, including two games vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins Thursday and Friday nights, and an afternoon game vs. the Monsters in Lake Erie on Sunday. The Lake Erie game kicks off a seven-game three-week road trip.

Upcoming Opponents

The Moose host their final home games of the season vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins Thursday and Friday nights. The Moose are 0-1-1-0 against the Grand Rapids Griffins so far this season, with both losses coming at the MTS Centre in the Moose season-opening weekend Oct. 11 & 13/07. The club's all-time record now sits at 14-15-4-5 in 38 games played vs. the Griffins. Last season, the Moose earned 13 of 16 possible points vs. the Griffins, including winning all four games played at the MTS Centre. The Moose are 8-9-2-1 at home vs. the Griffins.

The Moose meet the third of three new opponents -- and their newest divisional rival -- Sunday afternoon, when the club visits the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland, OH. The Monsters are the primary affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Last season, Colorado and the Carolina Hurricanes shared an affiliation with the Albany River Rats, against whom the Moose played four games (3-0-0-1) in the 2003-04 season. Although the Monsters are new to Cleveland, Manitoba has a long history of visiting the mid-western city, as the Moose played five IHL seasons and five AHL seasons vs. the Cleveland Barons.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

Rookie defender Luc Bourdon has three points (2g + 1a) in two games vs. Grand Rapids so far this season, including a goal and an assist in his most recent game on Oct. 13/07. Mark Cullen currently tops the Griffins leaderboard with 12 points in 12 games played, while Jimmy Howard and Adam Berkhoel have played six games each in net for Grand Rapids.

MOOSE NOTES

FIRING FIRST: The Admirals drew first blood in both games vs. the Moose this past week, meaning the Moose have now surrendered the first goal in seven consecutive games. The last time Manitoba opened the scoring was Oct. 21/07 at Hamilton, when the club eventually defeated the Bulldogs 5-1. Manitoba's record now sits at 5-5-0-0 when not scoring first, while the club holds a perfect 3-0-0-0 record taking the first lead of the game. Last season, Manitoba was 28-6-3-2 when scoring first and 17-17-4-3 when allowing the first goal.

THIRD TIME'S A CHARM: Manitoba scored three goals in the third period Saturday night vs. Milwaukee, securing a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Admirals. The win improved Manitoba's record to 4-4-1-0 when trailing after 40 minutes. So far this season, the Moose have scored 25 goals in the third period, compared to only 20 goals in the first and second periods combined. Manitoba's third-period scoring is now tops in the AHL -- four goals better than the next-best teams, San Antonio and Toronto. Although the Moose have been productive in the final frame, the club has actually fired fewer third-period shots on net than in the first and second. Manitoba has 136 total shots in both the first and second periods, but only 133 shots in the third.

POWERPLAY SPUTTERS: The Moose went 0-for-8 on the powerplay vs. the Admirals in Week 5, dropping the club to 16th in the AHL with a PP% of 16.2. Saturday night's 4-3 win marked the third consecutive game the Moose have failed to score with the man advantage, as the club went 0-for-6 last Saturday at Rockford. In 10 games since tying the franchise record for most powerplay goals in a single game with four on Oct. 17/07 vs. Rochester, the Moose have scored only six goals on 49 opportunities, for a 12.2 PP%. The last time Manitoba scored a powerplay goal was Alexandre Bolduc's third-period marker Nov. 2/07 at Milwaukee.
