Norfolk Admirals News Release
ALLENTOWN, Penn. - It required a shootout, but the Lehigh Valley Phantoms eventually skated home with a 2-1 win Friday night against the visiting Norfolk Admirals at the PPL Center.
Two minutes was all Matt Bailey needed to get the scoring going. Joseph Cramarossa took hold of the puck at the left wall before sending it around the boards. Bailey picked it up behind the net and quickly executed a wraparound, taking advantage of a sluggish Rob Zepp to shove the puck in at the right post. Robbie Czarnik earned the secondary assist to give Norfolk a 1-0 advantage.
Scott Laughton notched the equalizer on the power play at 8:26 of the second period. Jason Akeson protected the puck near the left wall in Norfolk's zone and slid a pass to Adam Comrie at the blue line. Comrie directed it to the right circle, where Laughton controlled and sent a wrister on net. Zack Stortini provided a screen in front, and the shot sailed over Ryan Faragher's shoulder to tie the game at 1-1.
Three periods and an overtime session weren't enough to decide the contest, and the teams headed to a shootout. Shea Theodore scored for the Admirals as he deked Zepp and went bar-down. Unfortunately for Norfolk, his was the Admirals' only successful attempt, while both Petr Straka and Scott Laughton found twine for Lehigh Valley to give the hosts a 2-1 victory.
The Admirals and Phantoms rematch tomorrow night in Allentown at 7:05 p.m. as well as next Friday in Norfolk for the Admirals' final home game.
Three Stars:
1) LV #21 Scott Laughton (GWG)
2) LV #72 Rob Zepp (33 saves)
3) NOR #31 Ryan Faragher (33 saves)
