Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Ryan Martindale scored the game-winner on the power play in overtime as the Syracuse Crunch defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-3, Friday at the War Memorial Arena to keep a four-point lead over Hartford in the Northeast Division. Jonathan Marchessault recorded his first career four-point game and 15th multi-point performance of the season, contributing a goal and three assists for the Crunch (41-21-9-0).

"They've found a little bit of chemistry together," head coach Rob Zettler said about Martindale and Marchessault being on the ice for all four goals. "Martindale's taken off offensively since he's gotten here. They've been together since he got here and I like what they bring together."

Johan Sundstrom went to the box for hooking 2:07 into overtime for Bridgeport (27-37-6-1) and Marchessault fed a slot pass to Martindale's stick for the game-winner. Martindale posted his second three-point (1g, 2a) game of the season and fourth multi-point performance, all with Syracuse.

The Crunch rallied back from a two-goal deficit entering the third period to force the extra session. Cody Kunyk struck first with a marker 26 seconds into the third period. Brayden Point netted a power-play goal 3:43 into the third period, his first professional goal, and Syracuse's first power-play marker in 19 opportunities. Marchessault and Martindale assisted on both of the third-period goals.

"It was one of the easier ones I've ever scored," Point said about his first professional goal. "[Marchessault] is a goal scorer in this league and he was wide open. It was obviously a really nice pass and gave me the empty net."

Marchessault opened the scoring 57 seconds into the first period after Bridgeport goaltender C.J. Motte mishandled the puck and fed it to Marchessault's stick with an open net. The Sound Tigers scored three-straight goals, starting with Alan Quine's power-play marker 11:54 into the opening frame assisted by Dustin Jeffrey and Ryan Pulock.

Quine and Jeffrey recorded multi-point games when they assisted on Chris Langkow's go-ahead goal 14:12 into the second period. Colton Gillies put Bridgeport up two with his fifth goal of the season and first in 35 games. Aaron Ness and Johan Sundstrom contributed the helpers.

Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 21 of 24 shots in his 25th win of the season. Motte faced 38 shots in the loss, his second defeat in three starts this season.

Syracuse faces the Springfield Falcons for the final time in the regular season Saturday at the War Memorial. The Crunch are 3-2-2-0 in seven contests against the Falcons this year.
