IceCaps Downed by Bears 3-2
April 10, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps were unable to hold off the Hershey Bears Friday night at Mile One Centre, losing 3-2 to the Eastern Conference's second place squad.
Despite early goals from Chase Balisy and Patrice Cormier to stake St. John's to a two-goal lead, the Bears stormed back with three unanswered to snag the two points and extend the IceCaps' winless streak to six.
Eric Comrie was solid for St. John's in his first start since being re-assigned from Tri-City of the WHL, making 28 saves. Philipp Grubauer was spectacular for Hershey, stopping 33-of-35.
Balisy got the IceCaps on the board first with a nice redirection off a Will O'Neill pass in the slot that slipped through the pads of Grubauer.
Later in the frame with just 2:41 to play, Joel Armia found Cormier in front and the fourth-year forward one-timed a shot past Grubauer to give the IceCaps a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
Hershey cut the lead in half midway through the second frame. Liam O'Brien wound up from the top of the right circle and blasted a shot into the top corner past Comrie.
Dustin Gazley tied it at two at 15:13 of the second when he made no mistake on a breakaway, beating a down-and-out Comrie with a move to the forehand.
Hershey completed the comeback at 14:03 of the third when Chris Conner tapped in a goalmouth feed from Tim Kennedy to put the Bears on top for good.
The IceCaps host the Bears Saturday for the second of two at Mile One (7:30 p.m. NDT). Catch all the action with Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com, 930AM and www.ahllive.com. Pregame show begins at 7:00. Tickets are available by calling 576-7657 or visiting www.mileonecentre.com and the Mile One Centre box office.
