Springfield Falcons News Release
Hartford, Conn. - The Springfield Falcons were blanked by the Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-0, tonight at the XL Center.
The loss drops the Falcons to 36-28-8-1 on the season. The team also completes the 10-game season series with the Wolf Pack with a 3-3-4-0 record.
Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe allowed three goals on 11 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo in the first period. Korpisalo went on to turn aside 20-of-22. Wolf Pack goaltender Yann Danis shutout the Falcons, stopping all 29 shots on goal. Springfield was unable to convert on seven power play opportunities. The penalty kill until allowed only one goal on five Hartford man-advantages.
The Wolf Pack opened scoring with three quick goals in the opening frame. At the 5:59 mark, Tyler Brown chipped it out from the slot to Danny Kristo, who skated in from the right wing. Kristo lit the lamp with a wrist shot from the circle. Chris Mueller earned credit for the secondary assist.
Under a minute later, the Wolf Pack struck again to build a 2-0 lead. Chris Bourque fired a shot at a sharp angle from the bottom of the right circle that slipped past Munroe. Joey Crabb and Tommy Hughes picked up points for the helpers.
The third tally came just after the halfway mark of the first period. Dylan McIlrath received a pass from Marek Hrivik and ripped a shot from the high slot through traffic. The marker chased Munroe from the game.
Hartford took a 5-0 lead over Springfield after notching two more goals in the second period. With 3:56 remaining, Shawn O'Donnell found the back of the net with the help of Chad Nehring and Oscar Lindberg. Just 55 seconds later, Kristo picked up his second of the game when he shoveled in the rebound of Justin Vaive's shot while on the power play. The secondary assist went to Bourque.
An even third period secured a 5-0 victory for the Wolf Pack.
The Falcons travel to face the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, April 11 at 7 p.m.
