Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators avenged last Sunday's loss in Albany with a 6-3 win over the Devils on home ice. Cole Schneider recorded his first professional hat trick while Shane Prince added a goal and an assist to lead the Binghamton scoring attack.
Schneider opened the scoring just shy of the eight minute mark of the first period with his 25th goal of the year off assists from Chris Wideman and Prince. Binghamton's Chris Driedger stopped all 12 scoring chances for the Devils in the opening 20 minutes of play to keep the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Aaron Johnson redirected a shot from Alex Grant past Albany's Scott Wedgewood 1:41 into the second period to make it 2-0 Binghamton. Prince made it 3-0 for the hosts less than three minutes later when he corralled a puck poked free by Schneider and lifted it over Wedgewood for his 26th goal of the year. Schneider notched his second of the night with 6:21 to play in the period before Matthew Zay recorded his first professional goal just 16 seconds later to make it 5-0 Binghamton heading into the final break.
Tim Sestito scored for Albany just 35 seconds into the third to breakup Driedger's shutout bid. The Devils went on to score two more goals with the first from Joe Faust at 2:43 followed by Mike Sislo with less than eight minutes to play cut the B-Sens lead to 5-3. Schneider put the game away with his third of the night on an empty net with just 59 seconds to play to move the final score to 6-3.
Driedger remained perfect in his five starts in net for Binghamton as he stopped 33 of 36 shots faced. Wedgewood allowed five goals on 27 shots to fall to 12-14-6 on the year.
