Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms lost in a shootout Friday night against the Sioux City Musketeers. It was Youngstown's second shootout loss in as many nights.

Goaltender Conor O'Brien made his first ever USHL appearance for the Phantoms, and turned away 44 Musketeer shot attempts.

"The guys did a good job of keeping most of their shots coming from the outside. In terms of level of play, it's definitely a step faster, every guy can shoot the puck, it's definitely great hockey," O'Brien said.

The Phantoms struck first, with Garrett Hall scoring for the second game in a row just 2:59 into the contest. Hall came down the right wing after a nice feed from Noah Lalonde and beat Sioux City goaltender Cam Gornet glove side. Youngstown would take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Sioux City would tie things up minutes into the second frame, when Phil Knies beat O'Brien for his first USHL goal. It was also Knies first USHL appearance.

Just over five minutes later Sioux City would take the lead behind Connor Valesano's second goal of the season.

Youngstown would answer back in the second period on the power play. Yushiro Hirano blasted a shot that was saved by Gornet, but Cam Morrison was waiting on the doorstep and slammed home the rebound. It was Morrison's 14th goal of the season, and tied him for the lead in USHL scoring.

Neither team was able to find a winner in the third period or overtime, and for the second straight night Youngstown would head to a shootout. Mitch Fossier would score the lone shootout goal to give Sioux City the 3-2 win.

"We were too predictable tonight, even coming through the neutral zone where we are normally very diligent with placing pucks in the right spot. We just didn't get to our style tonight, and I would say that's now the third game in a row we have failed to assert our game," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.

Youngstown and Sioux City will meet again Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7p.m. Central Time.
