Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (8-12-1-2) will open the Coliseum doors for the second annual Teddy Bear Toss night as they host the Dubuque Fighting Saints (14-8-0-0) at the Alliant Energy Center. Puck drop tonight is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone.

For a second straight season, the Capitols are giving you the opportunity to win big for Teddy Bear Toss night!

Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals and new toys for donation to Toys for Tots and throw them on the ice in celebration of the Capitols' first goal this evening. But now, you also have a chance to win big, if you're a good guesser!

Here's how it works:

1. Fill out the form at www.MadCapsHockey.com and select the Capitols player that you think will score the first Madison goal on Saturday and thus send the teddy bears onto the ice!

2. Should you pick correctly, you will be entered (along with the other correct predictors) into a random drawing.

3. One random winner of that drawing will receive two fantastic Capitols gifts!

1. An autographed Ryan Suter Capitols game puck

2. 12 tickets to the Capitols' Luxury Suite for the home game on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7:05 p.m. against the Dubuque Fighting Saints! (*food not included*)

On the ice, the Capitols will look to erase the bitter recent memory of a 3-2 overtime loss on Thursday in Dubuque at the Mystique Community Ice Center.

After first period goals from Nick Altmann (on his first USHL shift) and Ryan Lohin had staked the Capitols to a 2-0 advantage, Ryan Edquist had the Capitols rolling, preserving the lead into the game's final five minutes of regulation.

However, after a Kasey Fitzjerrells minor penalty, Dubuque awoke from its slumber, getting a tally from Shane Kavanaugh on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1. With just under two minutes on the clock, Dubuque head coach Jason Lammers yanked his goaltender, Hunter Miska, to get a sixth attacker on the ice.

Shortly thereafter, Dallas Gerads ripped a puck off the right wing boards and snapped a wrist shot through Edquist to force overtime, 2-2.

In the Capitols' third consecutive extra-time affair, it was a Capitols' draftee who would seal Madison's fate, as Casey Johnson tucked home a wraparound by Edquist in 3-on-3 play to knock off the Capitols in a stunning turn of events.

Madison has now lost four straight, despite picking up three standings points in the process. The Capitols are coming off their first blank performance of the season in a 3-0 defeat in Green Bay a night ago.

It's already the fifth meeting of the young season between the Capitols and Fighting Saints. Dubuque has won all four, with three of those contests decided by just a single tally.
