Omaha Lancers News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - Brannon McManus and JC MacLean each scored a goal and added an assist as the Omaha Lancers ended Cedar Rapids' seven-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory on the road Saturday night.
For the second-straight night, Omaha's power play unit came through for their first goal of the night. With time winding down on the mad advantage, Mitch Perrault took a William Fallstrom pass and let a shot go that sailed through traffic and by Cedar Rapids' goaltender Ben Blacker for a 1-0 lead. The tally was Perrault's at-the-time, team-leading ninth of the year and came 7:55 into the game with the only assist going to William Fallstrom. With the helper, Fallstrom picked up his sixth point of the year.
JC MacLean deflected a shot from the point to give the Lancers a two-goal lead in period two. Jake Gingell received a pass from John Wojciechowski and sent the puck towards the net. As Gingell released the shot, MacLean got in the lane and redirected the puck by Ben Blacker for the 2-0 lead. The goal was MacLean's second of the year and came at 7:22 of the middle frame with assists from Gingell and Wojciechowski.
After spending most of the second period on the man advantage, Cedar Rapids finally punched one by Lancers' netminder Zackarias Skog to get on the board. While working the puck during a five-on-three power play, Matt Filipe punched a rolling puck by Skog for his 11th of the year. The goal pulled the RoughRiders within a single goal of Omaha at 11:42 of the second.
In the third period, Omaha's power play struck again. Brannon McManus cracked a slap shot from the top of the left wing circle that found a way by Ben Blacker for his ninth of the season and second power-play goal of the weekend to give the Lancers a 3-1 lead. The goal was assisted by Nathan Krusko and came just 3:27 into the third period.
Later in the third, Lancers' captain Nick Rivera added to the lead for his eighth goal of the year. After picking up the puck in the left circle, Rivera skated to the high slot and beat Ben Blacker to give Omaha a 4-1 lead at 5:40 of the third frame for the three-goal lead. JC MacLean and Brannon McManus had the assists and both finished with multi-point nights.
