GREENSBORO, N.C. - Noah Perio went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored to lead the Greensboro Grasshoppers over the Charleston RiverDogs, 8-4, in South Atlantic League action Friday night in front of a crowd of 7,634 fans at NewBridge Bank Park.

Greensboro secured a three-out-of-four series victory and improved to 12-10 and 52-40 with the win, while Charleston dropped to 10-12 and 36-56.

Greensboro struck lightning quick to take a 2-0 first inning lead against Charleston starter Steve Evarts (1-3). Perio led off with a single, and Marcell Ozuna followed by clubbing his 13th home run of the year over the right field fence.

Charleston retaliated with two markers of its own to knot the tally at 2-2 in the top of the second versus Zachary Neal (6-6). Gary Sanchez cracked a double to start the frame, and eventually came home to score three batters later when Garrison Lassiter smoked a two-out RBI single. Jose Mojica then ripped a sharp groundball inside the third base bag to bring in Taylor Grote, who had walked.

The Grasshoppers surged back in front for good with two runs in the bottom of the third. Perio was in the center of the action again, hammering a RBI double to drive in Joseph Bonadonna. Christian Yelich capped the damage by picking up Perio from third with a RBI groundout.

Perio and Yelich teamed once more to extend the Grasshoppers' advantage to 5-2 in the last of the fifth. The second baseman tagged another two-bagger, and completed his trip around the bases when Yelich laced a RBI single to right field.

Kevin Mahoney and Kelvin De Leon helped pull the RiverDogs within 5-3 in the top of the sixth, slapping consecutive singles to put men in scoring position for Taylor Grote. Grote reached on a fielding error by Perio at second base, allowing Mahoney to scamper home all the way from second.

Neal was sharp over 5.0 innings of work, yielding the three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks, while fanning three.

The Grasshoppers racked up two more runs to up their cushion to 7-3 in the bottom half of the sixth. Mark Canha walked and scored on a groundout by Jacob Realmuto, who then came in to touch the plate on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Black.

Evarts was roughed up over his 5.2 frames, permitting the seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks, while managing to strike out three.

Francisco Rondon escaped the sixth without further harm, but gave up a run in the seventh to account for the 8-3 lead. Yelich drew a leadoff walk, swiped second for his 21st stolen base of the campaign, and crossed the dish on a RBI single by Wilfredo Gimenez.

Grote and Lassiter combined to account for the final 8-4 outcome in the top of the eighth off Greensboro reliever Chris Shafer. Grote was issued a free pass, and raced 270 feet around the bases from first to score on a Lassiter RBI double to the opposite field.

The RiverDogs begin the back-end of their road trip with the first of a three-game series versus the West Virginia Power on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Zach Nuding (6-6, 4.54 ERA) is slated to take the bump for Charleston, versus fellow righty Tyler Waldron (6-5, 4.48 ERA).
