BlueClaws Shutout Greenville 4-0 In Series Finale

GREENVILLE, SC - The Lakewood BlueClaws salvaged a split in their 4 game series against the Greenville Drive as they shutout the Drive for a 4-0 win on Friday night. Lakewood held Greenville to just 5 hits in the game, and used 4 pitchers to complete the shutout. Up next is a 3 game series in Kannapolis, NC against the Kannapolis Intimidators.

It was another great start for LHP Jesse Biddle as he won his 5th game of the year for the BlueClaws. He tossed 7 shutout innings allowing just 3 hits while striking out 8 batters. Biddle lowered his season ERA down to 3.10 with his 7 shutout innings on Friday. Colby Shreve and Jay Johnson combined to pitch a scoreless 8th inning, and Ryan Duke pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th to close it out.

Travis Mattair and Edgar Duran paced Lakewood offensively on Friday. Duran was 3-5 with a stolen base and 2 runs scored from the leadoff spot, and his teammate Travis Mattair was 3-4 with 2 runs scored, a Home Run, and 3 RBI's. Mattair's 2 run HR in the 8th inning was his 2nd of the year with Lakewood. Duran and Mattair combined to score all 4 runs Lakewood scored, and Mattair had all 3 RBi's in the game for the BlueClaws. Lakewood committed zero errors defensively, while Greenville had 2 costly errors.

The BlueClaws will start a 3 game series with Kannapolis on Saturday. RHP Garett Claypool (3-4, 3.24 ERA) will start Saturday for Lakewood. He will be opposed by Kannapolis RHP Phil Negus (1-0, 2.84 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
